Geotrading AD CEO Presents Award to the Rector of the University of Mining and Geology

Ms. Emilia Ilieva, Chief Executive Officer of Geotrading AD, part of the GEOTECHMIN Group, presented an award to Prof. DSc. Eng. Ivaylo Koprev, Rector of the St. Ivan Rilski University of Mining and Geology, at the ceremony recognizing Bulgaria’s top universities.

The ranking system is prepared on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Science, while the awards event is organized by the newspaper 24 Chasa. The rankings compare 51 higher education institutions across 52 professional fields using 47 indicators.

“As a representative of the mining industry, I would like to congratulate the University of Mining and Geology on winning this year’s award in the field of Exploration, Extraction and Processing of Mineral Resources. I would also like to note that a large number of managers in Bulgaria’s mining companies are graduates of this university. In 2023, the university celebrated its 70th anniversary and continues to maintain successful partnerships with businesses. Together with the GEOTECHMIN Group and other companies from the mining industry, a Career Development Day was organized, attended by more than 100 students,” Ms. Ilieva said while presenting the award.
She added: “For the current academic year, the GEOTECHMIN Group is providing 15 scholarships to students from the University of Mining and Geology, while over the past several years the total number has exceeded 40.”
“Thank you for the strong cooperation between the mineral resources industry and the University of Mining and Geology, represented by Prof. Tsolo Vutov, Managing Director of Geotechmin OOD. Many of you are probably aware that several Bulgarian companies are among the world’s Top 100 mining companies. What fewer people know is that 98% of the engineers working in these companies are Bulgarian. Thank you for placing your trust in us,” said Prof. Koprev.

Ms. Venelina Gocheva, publisher of 24 Chasa, emphasized that it is becoming increasingly important for businesses to have well-educated professionals, who are turning into their most valuable asset.

“Every year, we encourage university rectors to develop study programs that are modern and attractive, helping Bulgarian students choose to remain at Bulgarian universities. I wish you success in identifying professions that provide young people with the shortest path to a dignified and fulfilling life,” Ms. Gocheva said.

The Academic Oscars 2023 ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Acad. Nikolay Denkov, Minister of Education and Science Prof. Galin Tsokov, Minister of Innovation and Growth Ms. Milena Stoycheva, Mayor of Sofia Mr. Vasil Terziev, as well as university rectors and representatives of the educational community.
