For a third consecutive year, Prof. DSc. Eng. Tsolo Voutov and the Bulgarian Virtues Charitable Programme, supported by its donors Geotechmin Ltd. and Geotrading AD, backed the National Awards of the Union of Artists in Bulgaria. On 27 March, the official ceremony for the presentation of the IKAR 2024 Awards took place at the National Theatre.
The special award for outstanding contribution to Bulgarian Theatre was presented to the renowned actress Maria Kavardzhikova by Ms. Emiliya Ilieva, Chief Executive Officer of Geotrading AD.
“As a representative of GEOTECHMIN GROUP, which supports the IKAR Awards through the Bulgarian Virtues Charitable Programme founded by Prof. DSc. Eng. Tsolo Voutov, it is a great honour for me to present this award to an actress who has performed in more than 70 theatre productions and over 60 films, the grande dame of Bulgarian theatre, the unique and remarkable Maria Kavardzhikova,” Ms. Ilieva said while presenting the prestigious distinction.
The event marked the 50th anniversary of the first presentation of the awards, which recognize the most significant achievements of artists over the past year. On the occasion of World Theatre Day, a prominent theatre figure sends a message each year to theatre audiences around the world. This year’s message, titled “Art is Peace,” was written by Norwegian writer, playwright and Nobel Prize laureate Jon Fosse.
The IKAR 2024 ceremony was attended by Vice President Iliana Iotova, as well as members of the outgoing government, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel and Minister of Culture Krastyu Krastev.
